Building upon the critical and commercial success of the first R8, a second- generation model was unveiled in 2015. Available as a coupe or open-top spyder, the new R8 resembled its predecessor while introducing more contemporary, angular elements. Most prominently, new LED headlights and a hexagonal grille contributed to a more aggressive appearance. On the inside, the second- generation model’s interior was revamped, boasting higher-quality materials, more modern design elements, and updated technology for its infotainment and driver-assistance features.
Utilizing an aluminum space-frame chassis similar to before, the new body shell was made lighter and stiffer due to the substitution of certain aluminum sections and parts for carbon fiber. Offered in various states of tune, a naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V-10 was the sole powerplant offered and mated to a decisive, quick-acting seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch automatic transmission with Audi’s trademark Quattro all-wheel-drive system. A newly available Magnetic Ride adaptive damping system provided the ability to adjust the firmness of the suspension in real time, giving a balance between comfort and performance.
This 2018 Audi R8 V-10, Plus Spyder is painted in exclusive – and very unusual – olive green over a black leather interior. A “Plus” variant indicating additional features and performance enhancements, this R8 was equipped with the higher-output V-10 developing 602 hp at 8,250 rpm and 413 lbs./ft. of torque at 6,500 rpm.
Claimed by the factory to achieve 0–60 mph in 3.2 seconds and a 203.8 mph top speed, the V-10 was the most powerful production engine built by Audi at the time. Carbon ceramic brakes – standard on the V10 Plus – were capable of delivering massive, easily modulated stopping power. Commanding a lofty total MSRP of $222,950 when new, other optional extras noted on this R8’s window sticker included the full leather package, dynamic steering, a Bang & Olufsen premium sound system, and a Black Optic exterior package with Anthracite-finish 20" 10-spoke alloy wheels and titanium black trim.
Purchased new by the consignor from Audi Stevens Creek in 2018, this extremely well-specified and exclusive R8 Spyder displayed less than 300 miles at the time of cataloguing and presents in effectively as-delivered condition. Regularly maintained despite the limited mileage accrued, this Spyder was serviced at Audi Stevens Creek with 92 miles in June 2022, and more recently in June 2023 when 238 miles were indicated, according to service records on file.
This R8 Spyder is accompanied by its manuals, delivery accessories, car cover, records, and window sticker. With the R8 set to be discontinued after the 2023 model year, opportunities to purchase an ideally specified and practically unused example of Audi’s supercar will only become more infrequent.
